Project focus - Webcam with weather and tide overlay
In this project focus, I'll show you a project created by Matt, a B&B landlord and radio nut. This is how both our projects came together.
I have a personal project, Tides Today which provides tide times for over 9,000 locations across the world. It keeps me busy and I use it as a portfolio piece for when I apply for jobs. It allows me to try new technologies and improve my skills.
I was approached by a chap called Matt, a self-confessed Radio nut (check out his website) who had a project I just loved from the outset. This is what he's done and how our common interests complemented each other.
Matt's project
Matt and his family run The Devonhurst B&B in beautiful Broadstairs, Kent. He's coupled his business with his interest in technology to provide a live stream from the front of their property. The feed streams 24 hours a day, showing views from two high-quality cameras which work even in low-light conditions.
How Matt's project and Tides Today came together
Matt reached out to me, asking if I was able to help provide some data that he could overlay on his webcam stream. I provided him access to the API which provides Tides Today with its data. Straight away I loved his project and wanted to help however I could.
Using the API, Matt's been able to overlay both tide and weather data on top of the feed. Both Matt and I have plans for our respective projects and I look forward to working again to bring them together.
